Spring Registrations for 2017 are Now Open

We are one of the top organized baseball leagues in the area and participate within the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth national affiliation.
We have a spring and fall recreation season along with opportunities for Summer All-Star trail participation starting at 7 years old and Challenge teams starting at 9 years old.

Registration Information for Recreation League

Spring registration typically begins toward the end of January and runs through the first 2-3 weeks of February. Fall registration is done in July.

For all levels older than T-Ball, players will participate in a Skills Day assessment. Your child must attend Skills Day for his/her age level. Additional information about Skills Day is listed below. The date will be included in the information you receive during registration each season. Late registrations are extremely difficult to accommodate so please register early.

Tee Ball: 4-6 years old
Rookie: 7-8 years old
Minors: 9-10 years old
Majors: 11-12 years old
Babe Ruth 1: 13-14 years old
Babe Ruth 2: 15-17 years old

Skills Day

All players will demonstrate his/her ability to throw, catch, hit, and run for all of the coaches. Even though players have only a few minutes to demonstrate their abilities, it is a tremendous help to the coaches when it comes time for each coach to draft their team. Skills Day is simply our way of evaluating all players so that the teams can be chosen as evenly as possible and promote the most competitive season. At MCOC, we try very hard to prevent any one team from being appreciably stronger than the other teams. Skill Day is NOT a tryout and should not be viewed with the same anxiety as a tryout. All registered kids will be given a spot on a team. Missing Skills Day is regrettable but sometimes unavoidable. Please let the Level Commissioner know if your child cannot attend due to illness or being out of town. Coaches will draft teams immediately following the skills day and parents should hear from their child’s new coach within a few days. Practices generally start the week immediately following skills day.

All players will receive a shirt and hat for games. Players are responsible for their own gloves, pants, and cleats. Each coach will have an equipment bag with batting helmets included although many kids prefer to have their own.

We adhere to the strict guidelines of Babe Ruth and Cal Ripken baseball.  Here is the link for all Ripken/Babe Ruth bat rules:  http://www.baberuthleague.org/bat-rules.aspx

We are almost always in need of quality coaches. Head coaches are chosen based on the following priority:
  • MCOC Executive Board
  • Members MCOC members
  • Returning head coaches at that level
  • Returning head coaches at any level
  • Returning assistant coaches at that level
  • Returning assistant coaches at any level
Head coaches are free to choose up to 2 assistant coaches with whom they would like to coach. Coaches are also free to sign up as assistant coaches and they will likely be placed with a head coach (or sometimes even asked to be a head coach if head coaches are needed).
Please note that all coaches are required to be members of the Mallard Creek Optimist Club and are subject to an annual background check. Membership dues are $60 (one person), $85 (couple), or $13 (college student) annually.
